Viale delle terme

In the heart of Abano, at the end of the walking area, we find this park where among the green of the plants, the trees, the steaming thermal water gushes out in 5 stone bath at a temperature of 70.

Main street of the city, ideal destination for shopping, for buying local products, handmade products, or for stopping at a bar, ice cream parlor or restaurant.

Follow the street you arrive to the square in front of the neoclassical facade of Grand Hotel Orologio and the Arlecchino Fountain (photo above) consisting of a round-shaped part with 2 statues and a narrow and long part that goes on Montirone Street.

Colle del montirone

Situated on a green hill, where once time stood the temple of the God Aponus and a small emporium selling pottery.

Around the small hill soon arose villas and thermal palaces and the baths of Abano became famous for their “magical” qualities among patricians and military, but also emperors: Tiberius himself wanted to stop at the temple of Aponus, to consult the oracle of Gerione. Having had a positive outcome, he threw his golden dice into the fountain, before leaving for Illyria.

At the entrance stands also a Doric column, which in 1825 the architect Giuseppe Jappelli designed to accommodate the passage of Emperor Francis I of Austria.

LA MERIDIANA SOLARE

In the centre of Abano Terme, next to the Cathedral of San Lorenzo, in the beautiful Piazza del Sole and Piazza della Pace, commonly known as Piazza della Meridiana because of the meridian lines drawn on the floor in the center stands a giant sundial.
It is one of the largest in Europe, where you can read the time by looking at the shadow projected on the points along the semicircle of radius of 10 meters. Three bronze plates also indicate solstices and equinoxes
